Are you a printer user on Windows 10? You may have recently encountered some small issues. Indeed, the new operating system of Microsoft usually put your last printer as the default printer. Convenient at first, this can quickly become a hassle if you work with various devices.
In order to overcome this disadvantage, the simplest solution would be to go into the settings of your computer to change everything. All you have to do is go to the “parameters” section and then to the “peripherals” section. You will find there the section “printers and scanners”
If you go further, you should see the following option: “let Windows manage my default printer”. This is not what you want, and you can disable this feature.
However, this option may still be enabled even after you turn off everything. To fix this, you may need to select your default printer manually.
Do the same thing as before:
- Go to the “peripherals” section and then “printers and scanners”
- You should then see all the printers on your computer. Choose the one that suits you, and choose to “set by default”
You can always use the following trick in case of trouble (to be reserved for the most experienced of you)
- Open the command prompt by right-clicking on the Windows icon, then clicking “Run”
- Type the command “regedit” and confirm with “entered”
- Once in the registry, find the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Windows
Change the value of the registry key “legacyDefaultPrinterMode” from zero to one. Then go back to the Printers and Scanners menu and set the desired printer by default.
Here is another process for you:
With the Windows 10 TH2 (1511), Microsoft has added a new feature for the default printer. Microsoft manages all printers and uses the last used printer as the default printer. But this feature can be disabled without problems so that the right printer is always the default printer. For Windows 10, you can set a default printer. If you have more than one printer installed, but most often use just one, you can set it as the default printer. If you look in the settings, you will see there are different devices under printers that are not printers. One finds there eg Microsoft to PDF, Windows XPS Document writer, fax and of course your installed printer. If you set your printer as the default printer, you can instantly share your documents without having to select a printer each time. Here’s how to set a default printer:
Set default printer on Windows 10
To change and set the default printer in Windows 10, press the Windows + i keyboard shortcut or click on the Windows button in the bottom left corner and continue on Settings Click on devices.
- Click on Printer & Scanner on the left side
All printer will be displayed.
- Click on the printer you want to be the default printer and click on Default.
Set the default printer through the Control Panel
Under Windows 10, you can also set the default printer via the Control Panel. Press
the Windows + X key combination and select Control Panel
When viewing Large Icons, click Devices and Printers.
That’s it. If you want to print something now and in the future, you will use the printer you want. About the control panel, but it is only if in the “new” settings default printer Windows can be set to off. Otherwise, the last used printer will continue to be set as default.
